Tute end-to-end software development and supportFebruary 16th 2018
We worked with Tute’s founders from inception, working on the project from an idea all the way to reality. We collaborated with them to develop their vision of a socially led, disruptively priced, learning solution with educational credibility, built on a technology platform with personality and a foundation for exponential cloud scaling.
Industry: Education, Start-Up
Tute believes that learning together is better. Which is why they have built an easy, affordable and evidenced means to raise attainment using live, online lessons delivered by qualified teachers. Because of their success, they are Global Education Partners for Microsoft and Service Partners for Hewlett Packard. Tute use the very latest technology to support the best learning experience, and continually strive to improve our purpose-built Learning Cloud to improve outcomes for students.
Tute needed to be a platform to enable parents, learners and schools to find high quality, vetted, tutors for remedial and advancement lessons, book them and then enjoy a blended learning platform with full video, audio, whiteboard, polling and many other classroom and learning features.
The platform needed to deal with tutor registration and checking, search and ratings based on skills and subjects, parent and student registration, lesson payment via credit card and PayPal plus actually deliver the learning experience for one to one and one many lessons. A lightweight virtual learning environment supports online lesson delivery and helps both tutors and students prepare for and showcase achievements from the lesson. Students can undertake learning at their own pace prior to lessons and submit assignments online for tutors to edit.
Tute also wanted to provide a virtual academy to enable schools to create a dedicated walled garden for their institution to provide tailored online lessons to pupils. The Virtual Academy needed to be easily editable to allow schools to provide set curriculums or for students to choose their learning path by using credits to subscribe to extra tuition.
We’ve worked with cloudThing for a number of years now and fully intend to do so moving forward. Jay and the team deliver a unique blend of strategic insight and practical delivery, and understand the need for IT solutions to be commercially-driven. They are pragmatic, transparent and communicate extremely effectively. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to you given the experience of their outputs.
Sean Gardner, CEO, Tute.com
We have been the IT department behind Tute for many years. From the original architecture design up to ongoing support and various platform enhancements over the years. The entire solution has been developed, supported and upgraded over the years by cloudThing.
Tute needed to be able to infinitely scale with demand but maintain the quality of online lesson delivery over a range of locations and connection types. We migrated the service to be hosted across multiple AWS data centres across the globe and tightly coupled the lesson booking and infrastructure instantiation to ensure the appropriate infrastructure was provisioned ‘just in time’ ahead of the lesson starting, de-provision a few minutes after the lesson closed and a recording had been transcoded and stored in the cloud for future playback. The result was removal of overcapacity whilst simultaneously guaranteeing quality of service at any demand.
Tute's service has been proven over the years, with various situations showing the scalability and usability of the solution, the Virtual Academy was used to deliver an entire school curriculum in 2014 for 3 weeks when Yardley School in Birmingham had to close to due to fire.
